Spirit

The role of the human spirit is generally passive. On the contrary, the soul is always active. Our spirit is the organ that God gives us to embrace, discern and manifest the movements of the Holy Spirit. Put in simple terms, our spirit is the part of our being that gives residence, or is home, to God’s Holy Spirit.

It can be said that our spirit acts as a protective womb for the presence and the workings of the Holy Spirit. It is very much connected with our hearts and our conscience. Through its abilities our human spirit can embrace, discern and reveal what Jesus does in the Holy Spirit.

John 4:24 – “God is spirit (pneuma) and those that worship Him must worship in spirit (pneuma) and in truth.”

John 3:8 – “The wind (pneuma) blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, so is every one that is born of the spirit (pneumatos)”.

1 Corinthians 6:20 – “For you were bought with a price, therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit which are God’s.”

Man generally looks at himself completely opposite from the way God looks at him. By this, I mean we refer to ourselves as body, soul and spirit, while God refers to us as spirit, soul and body. God first sees, concerns himself with, and works with our spirit. So often we see and deal with our body first, and then our soul, and lastly our spirit, if we acknowledge it at all. Our earthly bodies are temporary but our spirits are eternal, so what do you think is God’s greatest concern? Of course, his concern is that which will go on into eternity – our Spirit.

There are many things that can wound our spirit. Rejection, sexual sin and abuse, curses and even cultural bondages can cause our spirit to wither. When we come to Jesus, our spirit is revived from its previous state of decay. Satan, however, wants nothing more than to cause our spirit to wither, so that our relationship with God will slowly decay. Rather than ignoring such issues as deliverance and inner-healing, we will address them candidly, bringing much-needed balance to them all.

Issues include:

  • Deliverance
  • Inner-healing
  • Rejection
  • Curses
  • Sexuality
  • Discouragement/Disillusionment
